Ff is Frighteningly Fun!

What do farms, feathers, fuzz, freeze dances,  finger paints, and Frankenstein have in common?  They were all fun things we explored this week!

The kids looked fabulous at our Halloween party!  We had fun being frightening, funny, and making Frankenstein art!

Our first field trip to Black Island Farms was fantastic!  We got to learn about the farm and some of their crops, pick a pumpkin, and play to our hearts content.

Tt was Terrific!

This past week, the kids loved when we took a tour on a train to find Tts around the classroom.  They were so cute when we put Tt treasures in our tepee or tent.  We got to be teachers or work in the train station in our Dramatic Play Center.  For our alphabet book, we taped 10 toothpicks on top of T.  We also did lots with 10!

Snack Time!

Discovery Adventures Preschool provides a small snack with every preschool session.  This is a great time to fuel those hungry little tummies with some healthy food while they practice manners and good social skills.  A different table etiquette will be taught and practiced each week in a relaxed and supportive way.

Snack time is also a wonderful time to continue healthy habits.  It is so important to us to provide healthy snacks we are even a Team Nutrition School!  Following the guidelines of nutritious snacks set out by the USDA insures we give our students the very best!  Special accommodations can be made for dietary needs.  Every week the snack menu and manner being emphasized will be posted for parents.

Good Manner.png

One thing that can be a challenging adventure for preschoolers, is trying new foods.   To encourage students in this area, we have a "Two Bite Club".  After the concept is Introduced with a fun book, children are encouraged to try at least two bite of every food offered.  If they do so, then they receive a punch on their card.  If they get a punch everyday that week, then they are in the "Two Bite Club" for the week and get a certificate to display on the wall and then take home!

Have any great ideas of how to make snack time a healthy adventure?  Let us know!

Classroom

I'm so excited to see the classroom coming along so well!  Since our basement was unfinished, I've been able to have this room created specifically with the preschool in mind.  We've worked with some wonderful professionals to help our dreams come true.  Jim Mills did a great job with the framing and Brad Gill has been an amazing contractor!  I am excited for it to get to the point that I get to add my own touches on it!

I am designing the room to be simple and neutral with lots of natural elements.  I think it's so important to bring in nature!  I also am a strong believer that the space should be a vessel for learning and be designed so that students learning and art is prominently and beautiful displayed.  Teacher created and store bought posters are to be kept to a minimum and used only when it makes sense (calendar, birthday board, etc.)  The real star of the room will be the kids and their work!

Keep checking back for more progress!  I love sharing our adventure with you!

Come read, dance, experiment, and laugh with us tomorrow!  For ideas of how to extend the learning and fun with bubbles at home go to our "Bubble" Pinterest Board: https://www.pinterest.com/hillarysteab/bubble-bubble/

ART

"Creativity is intelligence having fun." - Albert Einstein

I love doing art with kids!  Especially at a young age, art should be about exploring, experimenting, and having fun.  We will enjoy adventures in art that expand knowledge and creativity.  I've adopted the motto: Process over Product!  What that means for you is that the art your student creates will be uniquely their own.  For example, if we are doing art in connection to the letter B, instead of gluing paper down to look like a basket, your student may create an art piece with buttons or experiment with different shades of blue.  I strive to create artistic experiences that are rich, rather than a specific outcome of what I think the art should look like.

I look forward to creating with my little artists this fall at Discovery Adventures Preschool!
